On May 3, the Region of Durham and the Town of Whitby will host a free Environment Canada training session at the Centennial Building in Whitby for people interested in becoming a storm spotter.
Trained storm spotters play an important role in helping meteorologists at Ontario’s Storm Prediction Centre gather real-time, on-the-ground information about severe weather. The information provided by storm spotters through the Centre is an important part of Environment Canada’s Severe Weather Watch and Warning program, and often helps meteorologists decide to issue or update weather bulletins.
Join Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson for this exciting event if you:
- Have an interest in learning about how to spot severe weather and stay safe.
- Would like to become a CANWARN (CANadian Weather Amateur Radio Network) storm spotter.
- Are already a CANWARN Storm Spotter who would like to refresh your knowledge.
Members of the public who participate in this training can choose to sign up to become a CANWARN storm spotter or simply attend for their own interest.
The training is free to attend, but spaces are limited.
