Ehrenwort Trail ("Ehrenwort" means "word of honour") is a one-kilometre walk through the historic grounds of the former Boys Train-ing School and PoW Camp 30 campus, now a National Historic Site. During WWII, it was used by the Allies to house captured high-ranking German officers. It is the only known PoW camp in Canada with intact buildings dating from that era.
Over time, the buildings have been vandalized by people trespassing on the site. The Jury Lands Foundation, Architectural Conservancy of Ontario Clarington Branch, the Municipality of Clarington, and other interested groups have been working with the site owners to protect and interpret the site. The Walk Leader will explain the history of the site and will also update you on the most recent plans that are being developed to turn it into a park for all to enjoy.
Led by members of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, Clarington Branch.
Note that the route may include curbs and steps, and uneven trails and terrain. Dogs welcome!
Meet at 151 Sprucewood Crescent, Bowmanville. Parking on street or at John M. James School, 175 Mearns Avenue.
