The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Toronto Centre (RASC) and Durham Skies Astronomy will be donating an astronomical telescope to the Pickering Public Library (PPL). The unveiling will take placed on Friday, September 6, 7:00 pm at Millennium Square, during RASC’s free public stargazing event.
RASC, Durham Skies and PPL invite everyone to join for the unveiling ceremony and free stargazing at the edge of Lake Ontario. The public can observe through different kinds of telescopes (including solar-filtered scopes) to get close-up looks at sunspots, craters on the Moon, and planets visible in the current night sky. Event attendees will be able to Peer into deep space and try their hand at spotting faint star clusters and nebulae. The public can attend with their own telescopes and receive expert advice from RASC on how to use it better.
The astronomical telescope will be housed in PPL’s already extensive Maker Space and will be available to the public for borrowing as part of the Library’s Maker Space, Loanable Items. http://www.picnet.org/makerspace
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be relocated to an indoor venue at One the Esplanade. Please visit the RASC website for updates on the day of the event. https://rascto.ca
