ORTA Map 5; hike distance 10-12 km; 2.5-3 hrs; moderate-fast pace; hilly. Sturdy footwear and poles recommended.
Thirty-two years ago in the first edition of ORTAs Newsletter (September, 1992), there was the following notice 'All members and non-members of Citizens for an Oak Ridges Trail (CORT) are invited to participate in a hike on the Oak Ridges Moraine. The hike will last approximately 3 hours. We will be hiking in the area south of Uxbridge on the site of CORTs first proposed trail section. The area is a good example of the unique moraine environment and should be of interest to all. Interested hikers should meet in a parking area on the 7th Concession, south of Durham Road 21...'
While I won't be able to recreate that exact hike 32 years ago, we will be in the general area. I plan for us to hike on ORTA main and side trails.
Non-members are required to contact the hike leader by 6 pm the day before to discuss the hike in advance.
Meet at the parking lot on west side of Uxbridge Conc. 7, 2 km south of Goodwood Rd./Durham Rd.
Please note that this a pay parking lot #106. Where possible, hikers are encouraged to carpool from alternate locations with fellow hikers to reduce parking fees. Uxbridge residents are not required to pay for parking but are still required to register for a 'No-Charge Special Permit'. Please read the details in advance of the hike regarding the Uxbridge parking system can be found at Permit Parking - Trail Sustainability - Township of Uxbridge .
