Participants from all around the Durham Region and Greater Toronto Area will be participating in the 16th annual Durham Quarter Marathon (DQM) running event that attracts athletes from all over the world to fundraise for homeless and hungry youth at The Refuge Youth Outreach Centre in Oshawa.
While the official race day takes place on Saturday July 24th, 2021, participants will be able to enjoy the same amazing experience of the DQM while running virtually in their own neighbourhoods between the months of July and August!
Runners receive a unique finisher’s medal and technical race shirt to remember the event, the compassion, and the community at the DQM. The DQM is a family-friendly event for all levels of walkers and runners alike, with the choice to run the quarter marathon at 10.549KM or the eighth marathon at 5.27KM.
All funds raised through the DQM go to help homeless and street youth find hope for the future through The Refuge. Come and celebrate this amazing Canadian community found in the heart of the Durham Region!

If you love walking or biking along the waterfront from Pickering to Oshawa there are a number of outdoor public art forms close to the Waterfront and Trans Canada Trails for you to enjoy and snap a selfie with. For those of you in the Port Perry area, check out Palmer Memorial Park and when in Uxbridge check Elgin Park and the pond area.
If you are biking check with your municipality or friends as there are a number of detours this season. Just want to create you own sculpture tour, we have a list and map for you.
Snap a selfie with one of the 90+ fabulous sculpture forms in your neighbourhood and share on our group facebook page facebook.com/groups/pineridgearts @pineridgearts and/or instagram with #sculpturesofdurham tag. If you are unable to take a selfie, a photo of you with one of the Durham sculptures is accepted. Why not include your pet with you in your selfie?
We are looking forward to seeing YOU on instagram and facebook.
At the end of the month PRAC will select the Instagram or facebook post with and award the photographer $50. PLUS Central Counties Tourism will donate a $50 gift certificate (Durham restaurant or retailer of your choice) to another facebook and/or instagram player.

Dinos and Friends is a socially distanced, fully contactless, drive-thru located at Pickering Town Centre. This unique excursion in the safety of your vehicle gives your family the opportunity to drive thru a wide variety of animals from today such as Cows, Pigs, and Goats. Suddenly, you are brought back to prehistoric times where you will view our life-size animatronic dinosaurs moving and roaring!! We looke forward to seeing you there. Come roarrrr with us!!!

Explore the world of Anne of Green Gables in a behind-the-camera tour of Pickering Museum Village, the set of various 'Anne' productions for almost forty years. Enjoy a picnic lunch, while learning about how the village was transformed into Anne's world. Take an audio tour with Anne to remember some of her favourite memories from the book. Visit the historic houses and learn about Lucy Maud Montgomery and historic fashions from Anne's time. Enjoy a scone and create your own tea blend as you bring the past to life in this fun experience.
Lunch includes: 1/2 egg salad sandwich, 1/2 turkey and cheese sandwich; a drink, two cookies, and an apple. Scone is served with cream and jam and tea is blended by participants. No substitutions available.
Registration required in advance. Program is 2 1/2 hours. Cost per person is $40 plus tax. Maximum of 9 people per session. Call 905.683.8401 for assistance.

Twice a month, join members and non-members for a virtual coffee to discuss business-focused topics which will be posted in advance and members will have the opportunity to influence. For members, by members, this long-standing program continues its primary objective to support the business community and give them an opportunity to network and refer.

Every Wednesday morning in August, starting at 10am, the Oshawa Museum will lead a Historic Lakeview Park Walking Tour. Join us as we talk about the history of the park, sharing stories and places of interest along the way. Learn about the history of the Oshawa Harbour and explore the Port Oshawa Pioneer Cemetery.
The walk is approximately 1.5 hours in length. Guests will meet at the Oshawa Museum, Guy House.
Registration in advance is required, through Eventbrite. Admission is $5/person. Rain or Shine.
COVID Procedures: Masks are required as Lakeview Park is very busy and social distancing may be challenging. Capacity for each walk is 15 people. Safety Plan for walking tours has been developed and is available to every participant.

Travel back in time to the Roaring 1920s and the days of Prohibition. Rumour has it that a speakeasy is operating at the Brougham Hotel. Bring your detective team to see if you can uncover the whiskey runners and find the moonshine before time runs out. This 45 minute escape room is designed for minimum groups of two to a maximum of six people. Perfect for a date night, a family night, or a night out with friends from your social bubble. The price for this program is $80 plus tax per session (you can bring up to 6 people), the price is not per person.
Presented as part of Drama in Durham: War on Whiskey tours through South Durham. Download the Temperance & Temptation podcast and self-guide driving tour to visit local micro breweries and learn how the Bluenoses who supported Temperance openly clashed with the bootleggers and moonshiners who defied the movement. Visit the museum in the evening to experience the new 1920s Prohibition Escape Room.

Join artist Sarah Shaw as she guides you through this workshop. You will be using acrylics to create your ocean landscape masterpiece on a 12 x 12 piece of 100 year old barn board. You will have a piece of the ocean to hang in your home or cottage!.
This workshop includes an artist to guide you through the process, all painting supplies, including one 100 year old piece of barn board, paint brushes and one glass of wine!
For those interested the restaurant will be open for food and light refreshments but reservations are recommended.

In this 2hr “Make & Take Workshop” you will utilize a variety of cacti to create a living centrepiece for your home or desk that you can enjoy all year round. Set in the Potting Shed of the newly restored Greenhouse complex, in an intimate group (8 adults) you will be guided by our Greenhouse Grower Assistant, who will provide her guidance and expertise. Your fees cover your container, 3-4 cacti, soil, and terrarium bar toppings (coloured sand, stones, etc)
If you have special items you would like included in your cactus centrepiece please feel free to bring them along. Aftercare will also be discussed before you leave.

Do you mind your manners? Join us as Parkwood presents a most entertaining experience for your group to explore the etiquette of a fascinating bygone era. Dining Decorum focuses on the dining areas of the mansion, capturing some of the niceties and absurdities of formal entertaining during the 1920’s and 1930’s. Offering a very intimate and engaging experience, the program also provides the opportunity to view items not usually displayed during the regular mansion tours. At the conclusion of the program you will enjoy tea and seasonal scones in the Gardener’s Lodge. Guest participation is encouraged, so be prepared for a few laughs along the way!

NEW This Summer at Scugog Arts!
Take in an afternoon of art exploration every Saturday, July through August. Art in the Alley will feature a different program each week, removing barriers and opening up a creative space that will inspire, awaken, and connect our community to the arts.
Art in the Alley is a drop-in, all-ages program that takes place outdoors in the Scugog Arts Space laneway. Please keep in mind that weather happens. If it is raining heavily we will save the activity for the following weekend.
