The Cinechats Film Festival is an acclaimed weekly (and year-round!) series of the best motion pictures from around the world. It's like TIFF, but right here in suburbia -- and without all the immodest hype. Instead, we have lively conversations after each film. To date, over 28,000 people have attended Cinechats, which is a not-for-profit community educational collaboration between Artsforum, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Durham College, and the Durham Council for the Arts. (Trent University in Durham has also ben a recent partner.) Cinechats was twice nominated for the region's Art of Transition Creative Award. Come see movies that will stir your emotions and make you think -- movies with award-caliber performances, movies for the artist in all of us. We've even had a world-premiere and some exclusive presentations of films before they were released commercially in North America. DYNAMITE DAMES ("Take 3")
A Musical Comedy by Liz Auston and Conrad Boyce
Evening Performances: April 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 at 8:00 PM
Matinees April 6, 7, 13 at 2:00 PM
SYNOPSIS: Broadway Divas and show-stopping hits keep on coming! And at its heart, Dynamite Dames celebrates the spirit of being a woman. As a wife and mother, Jane has lovingly dedicated herself to a wonderful husband and two nearly-grown kids with little thought for her own wants and needs. A promising performer in a past-life, her only singing engagements of recent memory are those during tub time when the kids were little, her acting repertoire resounding solidly with "Good Night Moon". When a local theatre troupe shockingly earns the first licensing rights to a huge Broadway blockbuster to be staged in her community -- with lots of great roles for women -- Jane musters the courage to squelch self-doubt and audition for the show. But Jane is not alone in wanting to shake free of a familiar role, as she is joined by a bevvy of over-qualified, talented women who seem to share in a similar dream.
