For over 45 years, the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington (VAC) has produced a diverse range of exhibitions and public programmes to connect people of all ages and backgrounds through contemporary art. This year, we are excited to welcome back our Juried Art Show Exhibition after a 2-year hiatus. Following an open call in August 2022, the VAC received over 180 submissions from artists across the Durham Region and Greater Toronto Area. Selections were narrowed down to a final 35 artists. The following exhibition showcases varied subject matter and media from painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, and video artworks created over the past four years. For the first time in the juried show’s forty-one-year history, emerging artists under the age of eighteen have been invited to exhibit their work.

The December 7, 1941 attack on Pear Harbor triggered the internment and dispossession of tens of thousands of Japanese-Canadians. IN a tale that is both illuminating and profoundly personal, "Sansei: The Storyteller" weaves together storytelling, historical audio, dance, and family recollections in a moving work that the CBC hailed as both "timely" and "unexpectedly beautiful". With compassion and unexpected humour, Mark Kunji Ikeda shares his discovery of where he came from, how his family navigated their histories, and how rampant racism of past generations has affected the Japanese community today. Concessions and cash bar available.
"Ikeda says more with the movement of his fingers than many actors do with reams of dialogue." ~Louis B. Hobson, Calgary Herald

Ska-pop-punk foursome ill Scarlett formed in 2001 in Ontario, Canada. Influenced by California ska-pop pioneers Sublime, the band took its message directly to the people in 2004 by playing via generator to a line of folks waiting to gain entry to the Vans Warped Tour. This caught the eye of promoters, who would welcome the band as an act the following two years. The band released an independent album, Clearly in Another Fine Mess, and an EP, EPdemic, before getting a major-label deal and recording time with No Doubt producer Matthew Wilder. That album, All Day with It, was released in July 2007.
Don't miss illScarlett's return to Oshawa on Dec 17th at The Biltmore Theatre w/ Nothing Special and Haddix
