7:00 PM| Station Gallery Whitby
Join Station Gallery in opening our newest exhibition featuring works by Catherine Lane, T.J. Brown and Passmore Mashaya.
Wish Them Well is a trilogy that plays out in three galleries. In the Coppa space, the idea of a wish being something that is longed for or desired. Deeper in the heritage space, Lane will conjure them - the two William Stones involved in a historic cold case murder tale that clings to the station building. The plot thickens further in the far gallery space, centering around a well. Wish Them Well invites viewers to create unique narratives from drawn and constructed fragments offered by Lane.
Deep contrasts and dramatic tension dominates T.J. Brown's work in Occultatum. His psychologically charged pictorial spaces take cues from film noir and cinematic thriller narratives. He takes great interest in what remains obscured, treading into areas which are better left untouched. In exploring these spaces, we are left with wondering who is trespassing upon whom.
As a child, Zimbabwe artist Passmore Mashaya was surrounded by beautiful scenery. His adaption to this great natural beauty of the town of Nyanga significantly influenced his artistic passion for telling stories through stone.
Wish Them Well, Occultatum, and Dreaming Through Stone are on at Station Gallery from February 1 - March 24, 2019.
