7:30 PM| Whitby Centennial Building, 416 Centre St S, Whitby, ON L1N 4W2
On May 3, the Region of Durham and the Town of Whitby will host a free Environment Canada training session at the Centennial Building in Whitby for people interested in becoming a storm spotter.
Trained storm spotters play an important role in helping meteorologists at Ontario’s Storm Prediction Centre gather real-time, on-the-ground information about severe weather. The information provided by storm spotters through the Centre is an important part of Environment Canada’s Severe Weather Watch and Warning program, and often helps meteorologists decide to issue or update weather bulletins.
Join Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson for this exciting event if you:
- Have an interest in learning about how to spot severe weather and stay safe.
- Would like to become a CANWARN (CANadian Weather Amateur Radio Network) storm spotter.
- Are already a CANWARN Storm Spotter who would like to refresh your knowledge.
Members of the public who participate in this training can choose to sign up to become a CANWARN storm spotter or simply attend for their own interest.
The training is free to attend, but spaces are limited.
Interested? Reserve a spot today at durhamstormspotter.eventbrite.com.

11:00 AM| 151 Sprucewood Crescent, Bowmanville
Ehrenwort Trail ("Ehrenwort" means "word of honour") is a one-kilometre walk through the historic grounds of the former Boys Train-ing School and PoW Camp 30 campus, now a National Historic Site. During WWII, it was used by the Allies to house captured high-ranking German officers. It is the only known PoW camp in Canada with intact buildings dating from that era.
Over time, the buildings have been vandalized by people trespassing on the site. The Jury Lands Foundation, Architectural Conservancy of Ontario Clarington Branch, the Municipality of Clarington, and other interested groups have been working with the site owners to protect and interpret the site. The Walk Leader will explain the history of the site and will also update you on the most recent plans that are being developed to turn it into a park for all to enjoy.
Led by members of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, Clarington Branch.
Note that the route may include curbs and steps, and uneven trails and terrain. Dogs welcome!
Meet at 151 Sprucewood Crescent, Bowmanville. Parking on street or at John M. James School, 175 Mearns Avenue.

Ottawa, Ontario's MonkeyJunk have been nominated for Blues Album of the Year for their Stony Plain Records release 'Time To Roll'
Since 2008, the name MonkeyJunk has been synonymous with the emergence of a new kind of blues on the Canadian and international scenes. Continually pushing boundaries and blurring genre lines, the Ottawa Ontario-based trio has added an edge to their music by incorporating swampy blues & rock with thoughtful and intelligent lyrics. Their fifth Stony Plain Records release, Time To Roll is unique in that it incorporates elements of all four of their previous recordings with added maturity in songwriting and instrumentation, cementing MonkeyJunk’s originality and sound as its own.
