Jane’s Walk is an international movement of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs. It encourages people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities & use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.

RMG Fridays: Renewal Festivals and Fairs

May is here, just in time for a renewal!

Join us for Emerging Visions, this free art exhibition of Durham College’s Fine Arts Advanced students. We are excited for this new Exhibition showcasing their thesis collection. Downstairs on the lower level, DRIFF in a Jiff in the Lookout, and an open art activity in the Art Studio with Farah. Starapples Restaurant is popping up in the lobby and will be dishing out delicious eats for sale. We will also be featuring performances by Delon Om and HADDIX.

Born and raised in Pickering, Ontario, Canadian singer/songwriter Delon Om is a former contestant on Canadian Idol. After co-writing one song with Juno award-winning producer Sheldon Moore, Om was catapulted to instant stardom when Virgin Radio 99.9 (CKFM Toronto, Canada) welcomed the single “Superstar” into rotation. Om is currently signed to Sony Music and is working on new music for MTV.

HADDIX is a high energy pop-rock artist from Toronto Ontario. After releasing music written aside Grammy nominated songwriters in Nashville TN, HADDIX launched her first live shows in 2022, debuting at NXNE ’22! Since then she has taken her show on the road with her incredible band, opening for Juno nominated talent and gaining attention in the Canadian music scene.

Collected leaf and yard waste is processed into nutrient-rich compost. In the spring, residents are invited to our complimentary compost giveaways. Quantities are first-come, first served and limited to four blue boxes of compost per vehicle.

Green bins, blue boxes, blue box lids and backyard composters will also be available for purchase (VISA, Mastercard, debit or e-transfer only), and broken bins can be exchanged for free.

What should I bring?

  • Shovels: residents are responsible for shovelling their own compost.
  • Containers: blue boxes, reusable containers, yard waste bags.

Motor City Cat Club’s Annual Cat Show Sports and Recreation

The cats are back after a three year hiatus! Come join us for a day of fun, competition, shopping and of course....cats! Motor City Cat Club was formed in Oshawa in 1978 by five cat lovers. The purposes of the club are to promote the breeding and showing of purebred cats, to educate the public on the care of their feline pets, to promote the well-being of all cats in Durham Region, and to organize cat shows sanctioned by the Canadian Cat Association with whom we have been affiliated since its inception.

Maplefest Festivals and Fairs

There’s nothing more Canadian than freshly harvested Maple Syrup! Come celebrate the start of spring in Historic Downtown Bowmanville on the first Saturday in May.

This highly anticipated festival showcases many of our local syrup producers who offer up the best of the region.  Maple products abound at MAPLEFEST and you will be delighted to find treats such as maple donuts, cheese, candy, nuts, fudge, and so much more.  Stroll along four city blocks to explore unique items from our craft and food vendors.

Make sure to arrive early so you can enjoy our famous hot pancake breakfast while being entertained by live musicians.  The children will be thrilled with the many kid-friendly activities.

Your visit wouldn't be complete without browsing through the many independent shops and restaurants in Historic Bowmanville.  So come down and SHOP!  DINE!  DISCOVER!
